Overview

This trip is specially designed for those who want to see the beauty of the Altai mountains in the winter. If you already have been in Altai in the summer, do not hesitate to come in the winter, because you will find quite another world with an absolutely fantastic atmosphere.

The dates of our trip correspond to the Altaian New Year – Chaga-Bayram. We will join the celebration on the main square of Gorno-Altaisk.

There are walks included but without any serious physical loads. We will not spend more than 4 hours outside for these activities. And it is such a great pleasure to return with red cheeks and cold noses in the warm wooden cottages and drink hot herbal Altaian tea.

Besides all this, you will get acquainted with rituals, traditions and beliefs of the local people.

Brief itinerary

Open All

Day 1. Welcome to Altai + Chaga-Bayram

Welcome, we will meet on the airport and first will go to Gorno-Altaisk city. There is celebrating of Altaian New Year – Chaga-Bayram. In the afternoon we will drive to our first destination on the bank of Katun river.

Day 2. Hiking to the frozen waterfall and husky-sledging

This is a day of sightseeing, we will drive and visit several places along the Katyn including a beautiful frozen waterfall.

Day 3. To the Teletskoe lake

We transfer to the Teletskoe lake, also called the “golden lake”or “Altyn-Kol”. During our trip we will visit many places, incl the National museum and Patmos island.

Day 4. Exploring winter taiga

A relax day because you will have a free morning, in the afternoon a nice walk following ecological path.

Day 5. The real beauty of Teletskoye lake and Altai reserve

The whole day will be devoted to the trip to the village Yailu.

Day 6. Skiing and sport activities

Winter sports is the main theme for today as we will bring you to the ski-resort.

Day 7. Altaian culture

A full day of Altaian culture. In the afternoon we will drive back to Gorno-Altaisk.

Day 8. Farewell

After a good breakfast, we will bring you to the airport.

Details



Accommodation

We will stay in 2 destinations, first place – 2 nights, second place – 4 nights and 1 night in a hotel in Gorno-Altaisk. In both destinations there is a big cottage with 3-5 rooms and with big halls, so that the whole group lives in one house and can spend the evenings together. In every room – WC and shower. Rooms are for 2 or 3 people. Banya – 2 times (for fun).



Level of fitness

Your level of fitness has to be moderate, most places are easy to reach, but some of the fantastic viewings points are only reachable after hiking up a mountain.



Meal

3 times a day in the cafes or cottages (all included). Lunch can be as a lunch-box.



Weather

The temperature can vary widely – from -5 till -30 °C. Days with heavy snowfall or strong winds are possible. So, the itinerary can be changed due to the weather conditions.


